It is easy today to get despondent and depressed over all the terrible news we get bombarded with on a daily basis. The media focus is usually on the sensational and superficial. So apart from turning off the TV when the news comes on, how do we avoid getting dragged into the vortex of negativity? It is vitally important that we do this, as our collective conscious decisions and actions do in fact have the power to change the world.
Instead of wallowing in the tragedy and sadness, accept it as part of life. Do what you can to help if the issue is within your circle of control. Focusing on the positive is not as airy- fairy as some may like to think. Everything is energy, and thoughts have energy. The vibrational frequency of our thoughts can have great impact. There actually are scientific studies done which show that positive thoughts generate significantly different brain activity, releasing different chemicals – neurotransmitters- in the brain. This is a topic that can be explored at great length, but in the interests of keeping this article short and simple, here is a summary of what we can do to create change in our state of mind and consequently our body, which is directly impacted by our thought patterns. Tony Robbins refers to this as “The Triad”
Change your PHYSIOLOGY. – If you are sitting down, stand up and stretch, go for a walk, put a smile on your face and even if you don’t feel like smiling, fake it till you make it! You will trigger the release of oxytocin in your brain. Oxytocin is the “feel good” chemical. Your mother was awash with oxytocin when you were born – she had such great love for you and thought you were the most beautiful thing in the whole world! It really is impossible to feel totally depressed with a smile on your face!
Stress, on the other hand, releases cortisol, which turns off our immune system and increases blood pressure.
Change your LANGUAGE – Choose your words wisely. Words also have vibrations and you will feel very different if you say “I am a little tired” as compared to saying “I am EXHAUSTED!.” Go ahead – try it. See if you don’t feel the difference.
Change your BELIEFS . What you constantly think about you will attract! Whether you have a religious belief in God or a Supreme Being or Creator or not, if you believe that everything will work out for you, it probably will. Vision boards, positive affirmations and similar techniques are great aids to focusing on the positive and really believing that what you want or desire will become a reality. Faith moves forward, Fear holds back. Choose to believe only that the best will happen for you. Affirmations should always be stated in the positive.
Underlying all of this is the crux of the issue that causes us to feel great or feel bad. Put simply, it is LOVE, or a lack of it. This is the most important of our “SIX HUMAN NEEDS”. Again, I have to credit this to Anthony Robbins, who teaches this in depth. To fully explore this topic will require another article. Suffice it to say that if everyone felt loved, valued and significant, a large part of the population would not be walking around with a great weight on their shoulders, constantly on the defensive and looking to make someone feel worse than they do.
Perhaps we could all learn to love each other, or at least, learn acceptance of each others’ differences and live in peace. But before this happens, we must learn to love ourselves. Not the selfish, egotistical kind of love, but an appreciation that you have as much right to be on this planet as anyone else, and are unique and beautiful in your own way. You cannot love anyone unselfishly without inner security and self esteem. This is the power of the CTC process. Developed by Joanne Antoun, it delivers freedom from limiting beliefs – from self -doubt and depression, from addictions and most importantly, the freedom to live life with joy and serenity in the midst of the muddle.
I am truly honoured and grateful for all my life experiences. I have had great mentors throughout my professional career and now want to “pay it forward.”
Many years in the commercial world in leadership roles mentoring large teams have provided me with insight into the six human needs, enabling me to truly empathize and understand my client’s problems. As a Reiki Master, I have been exposed to the wonder of healing and energy, and my intensive CTC training and experiences have provided me with the ability to help others live life with love and laughter. I continue to be a student of life, so I can be a more effective teacher .
